Last week I was super lucky to be invited, along with 5 other incredible fitspo babes (more on those later) to the Lifehouse Spa in Thorpe-le-Soken for 2 days of fitness, wellness and all around relaxation and mindfulness treatments- I got the email when I was actually in hospital, and practically bit the hand of the PR for even suggesting it. It fell 2 days after the Shine Night Marathon Walk– so of course, it was the perfect opportunity to rest and relax from the 26.2 miles of walking.
I had never actually been to a spa retreat before, so excitement levels were at an all time high. But all my expectations were hit and exceeded to a completely new level. Which has made me crave going back at an all time high right now. Especially as I write this after a night shift. (yawn)
The spa itself is just a short journey away from London, and is the perfect combination of traditional Scandinavian design and contemporary modern styles- creating a haven away from home and compromises of 89 guestrooms, that all have an incredibly beautiful view over the grounds, be it the gardens or courtyard. 35 treatment rooms, relaxation areas, an indoor gym, outdoor fitness circuit, swimming pool and thermal spa areas. With added bonuses all around, including the outstandingly beautiful gardens, that are just perfect to relax and wonder around in.
They also pride themselves on having dedicated experts specialising in a number of areas ranging from fitness, life coaching, nutrition, weight loss and many other different programmes, so what ever your needs or requirements are, there is something for everyone.
Our itinerary for the retreat squeezed in every little angle of the spa to really give us a little glimpse into all that the Lifehouse has to offer.
We started the first day with a little tour, and then straight into Lunch, which is of course all of our favourites. With a large selection of hot and cold foods straight from the buffet, there was something to match everyone’s tastes. They also had a large range of gluten, vegan and other dietary requirement dishes for anyone with allergies or intolerances. And as a newly gluten free (bloody gallbladder op) this was a welcome addition after a good 3 hours travelling. So we piled our plates high, sat down and got to gossiping.
Out of the 6 of us, I had only heard of one of the other bloggers, the wonderful and completely sassy, with a booty to match- Carly Rowena. I had been a massive fan of Carly’s for months, so did a little fan girl squeal when I heard she was going- and she was absolutely amazing. Talking to her, and to be honest- talking to all the girls- it felt like I had known them for years, and we were just having a little girly weekend away. We spoke about life, our blogs, fitness, tinder, partners, babies and everything in between. The other incredible fitspo girls came in the form of, the incredible mummy-figure who has a figure to die for Hedi Hearts, who gave me some of the best advice in both my blog and personal life, and literally made the trip 100% better. The gorgeous Lucy from the fashionfitnessfoodie who looks incredible 24/7 and gives me all the style envy. The little cute Teffy from sprinkle of green, whose healthy lifestyle, outstanding photography and passion for life and constant travel plans makes me want to be her! And finally the incredibly strong, beautiful and inspirational Georgina from fitcetera who is literally the sweetest girl you could ever meet, but one who could kick your ass if needed- the perfect combination. It was such a privilege and an honour to be with these girls over the 24 hours- and can’t wait to meet up with them all again. They even took away my first ever fitness class virginity.. so we now share something special.
After lunch and getting to know each other a little bit, we headed off to our separate spa sessions- I was booked in for the “Mindful Moments” which was a 55 minute treatment compromising of a soothing and calming foot ritual, head, neck and shoulder massage as well as a well needed firm and meaningful back massage, focussing on all the pressure points along the body. It was an absolutely incredible way to clear my mind and completely relax and just have some me time. The massage was done with some amazing spiezia organic products, which the Lifehouse kindly gifted us with and I cant wait to try and recreate that amazing mediation moment at home.
After getting all relaxed and soothed, it was time to head to an abs and glutes workout. (we seriously did that the wrong way around!) This wasn’t on our plan for the trip, but as we had a few spare hours and the girls being the incredible fitness babes that they are, we booked ourselves into one of the hotels many workout classes. An intense 30 minutes focusing on the abs and glutes and completely working up a major appetite right before dinner.. my favourite workout.
We were the lucky taste-testers for a few new dishes, before they launched on the Spa’s restaurant menu, and of course we got stuck right in, trying everything- and demolishing an extreme amount of food. Which included a trio of starters to start us off. Hot smoked salmon with edamame beans and avocado, beetroot ‘ravioli’ and a quinoa stuffed courgette followed by platters upon platters of healthy Sue’s Salad complete with a gluten free crisp onion rye bread, slices of duck and salsa verde, a vegan korma, cauliflower rice, lamb and apricot tagine, chicken, boiled eggs, fish and SO much more. I can’t even think about it right now because I’m salivating at the thought of all that incredible allergen free, healthy food. The vegan korma was a hit with everyone as we polished of a few bowls of it between us, before moving onto a trio of desserts- because one is just not enough after all that food, right?
Dessert saw a chocolate and avocado mousse which was the perfect consistency of lightness, fluffiness and richness without being too over sweet- with an added raspberry on top. A rich polenta and lemon cake, that was one of my favourite items from the entire evening. Its tart lemon-y made the cake super moist and moreish. And a coffee swirl cheesecake, which I didn’t try as I’m one of the weird people that doesn’t actually like coffee- but the other girls seemed to love theirs so the entire meal was a huge success, and if you are heading to the Lifehouse spa anytime soon you will be in for a major treat!
After dinner, we decided to take full advantage of the spa facilities and take a dip in the pool, then relax in the thermal section of the pool and have a late night gossip session, before heading back to our rooms and getting a well deserved rest before day 2- and I just have to say how COMFY that bed was, you could have probably fit about 4 people in there, but of course I still managed to fall out while trying to text. Damn short chargers.
Day 2 saw us waking up around 7am- with hot lemon water delivered right to our doors. Can this become like a normal thing please? I’m already trying to get my mum to do it for me haha. There’s just something so refreshing about completely detoxing your system before starting your day.
Unfortunately during our boot-camp session in the morning, with three of the lovely fitness coaches that Lifehouse has, I ripped open a stitch from my surgery a few months back and had to leave to get to hospital. Which meant that I was unable to enjoy the gorgeous looking breakfast, life-coach and yoga sessions and more time with my lovely fitspo girls. But the other girls have all blogged/vlogged about their stay too, their links are above- if you wanna check out their stay!
Even though my stay was cut short, and ended in extreme pain and discomfort I still had such an incredible time at the Lifehouse Spa. They are completely dedicated, experienced and packed full of all the necessary knowledge and advice to help you in any area of your life that you feel needs a little extra work or attention, and I am already booking my next session back as soon as I can.
And the lovely people over at the Lifehouse spa have created a little special offer for all my lovely readers.
