I’m such a huge snacker. But when you are following a gluten-free diet it means you can sometimes be limited on your snacking choices. But fear no more. I have, in the name of science, sat down, snacked hard, and found the best and newest gluten-free sweet treats that are available to buy right now – so get your shopping shoes on, because it’s an add to cart kinda day.
Whether you have gone gluten-free for medical or lifestyle purposes, it shouldn’t mean having to miss out on cakes and bakes or getting stuck with the same old boring choices. We deserve to satisfy our sweet teeth too. And thankfully there are some brands out there that agree with us and have created some delicious gluten-free sweet treats that could convert even your gluten-iest of friends.
Squirrel Sisters, Raw Bites Share Bags. Waitrose, £2.75
One of my favourite healthy snack bars, Squirrel Sisters have just expanded their range into share bags and I am all here for it. With mini bite-size pieces of their deliciously moreish Cacao Brownie and Cacao Orange bars now available in one easy-to-grab, even easier-to-snack bags, I couldn’t be happier. The only problem is… I don’t want to share. Grab yours here.
Schär Melto. Sainsbury’s £1
The gluten-free answer to a Kinder-Bueno. A crisp GF wafer filled with smooth and creamy hazelnut cream… melto by name, melto by nature. This delectable bar has all the right textures you’re looking for in a sweet snack. Its got crunch, its got creaminess and its got that melt on the tongue chocolate that makes you want to go back for more. Pick one up here.
Chocolate Banana Bar by MadeGood. Asda £2 for 6
This brand-new bar from MadeGood has been specifically created for allergen sufferers in schools, but that didn’t stop me getting my hands on one… or six. The thickly packed bar is packed full of antioxidant-rich ingredients and contains all the nutrients of one full fruit and veg serving. Its rich banana bread-like taste is cut through with bitter dark chocolate chips and is satisfying on every level. Grab a box here.
Pure Bite, Coconut and Strawberry. Morrison’s £1.25
Morrison’s have just welcomed the Pure Bite range into their stores; I have just welcomed it into my heart. Available in either a popped rice or cluster variation, the Pure Bite range comes in five different flavours. The crunchy coconut clusters with strawberry pieces won me over with delicious morsels of sweet strawbs and creamy coconut in every bite. The Pure Bite range is also dairy-free, low salt+sugar and high protein+fibre. Find out more here.
Pots & Co, Mango and Passionfruit Little Pot. Waitrose, £1.45
One of my favourite indulgence brands of all times has only gone and released my favourite flavour of all time – mango and passionfruit in a low-calorie version (the first of its kind). Not only have they created the most intense, rich and creamy Alphonso mango posset they have paired it with a sharp and tangy passionfruit compote and lovingly poured it in a little pot, for a little me time. Grabs yours here.
Mavericks Snacks Top Banana Lace-Ups, Sainsburys £0.40
Made for kids (but I won’t tell if you won’t) these gluten-free, vegan and no added nasties lace-ups sure pack a banana punch but done so without being overly sweet and synthetic. Made using real banana puree, Mavericks have nailed both the flavour and the nostalgic feel on these which makes this snack top of its class. Pick up a pack here.
NOMO, Caramel and Sea Salt. Waitrose, £0.75
Now, this wouldn’t be a sweet snack post without talking about my ultimate sweet flavour combo – chocolate and salted caramel. NOMO [NO Missing Out] is the brand-new vegan chocolate brand taking the world by storm. It’s incredible taste, texture and allergen-friendly recipes are making a huge name for the newcomers. But when you get a sweet caramel cut through with a pinch of sea salt encased in an incredibly creamy (like how do they even make it that vegan creamy) bar who wouldn’t fall in love?! Grab loads here and thank me later.
